The Magic of Choice

Every day life gives us opportunities to choose. Sometimes we feel as though we are at the mercy of life's outcomes, but during adversity, stress, and struggle, we always have a choice. Choices are not always as obvious as selecting amongst two career options or weekend activities. Choices also happen in our minds. Where we focus our attention greatly influences our choices. In one of my favorite books, The Book of Joy, Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama share their harsh experiences in exile and devastation. Despite adversity, they always believed they had a choice. They always had control over how they thought about their circumstances. They consciously chose to see the beauty and gifts in all struggles.

Where do you choose to focus your attention?

Which Choices Can You Make Everyday to Improve Your Life?

Choose Your Focus

When I first heard about Joe Dispenza's book, You Are the Placebo, at first I thought it sounded too out of this world for my taste. However---I changed my mind and my focus.

Joe Dispenza created a movement focused on how our choices change our thoughts, perceptions, and past narratives. He helps people heal their minds and bodies at profound levels. The key is to embrace your most authentic self while understanding that we all have the power to rewire our brains and reset our body's programming. Self-awareness and acting on choices that are best for us are at the core of illness, pain, and recovery.

Choose New Behavior Strategies

Dr. Radziwon, University at Buffalo, studies behavioral strategies for helping people live quality lives despite complex medical conditions. Breathwork is at the heart of these strategies. I know breathing seems obvious, we all breathe, but how we breathe is crucial. Did you know many of us shallow breathe or even hold our breath? Unlock the magic within the mind and body by choosing to expand your awareness of breath.

Choose Your Destiny

As I launch the I Am Pawso children's book, I remind myself that since my childhood, I have been in control of my mind and my choices. When I imagine "who I am" and "who I want to be," the more I focus on the choices I can make in my life that help me feel more accepting, calm, nice, and helpful. The more I choose to focus on those virtues, the more I embrace situations and people in my life who help me get closer to life's magic.
